COUNCIL APATHY.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —There have been many grievances ventilatp.d through your columns recently in regard to the condition of the streets (?) of the Hamilton Borough Council, and I trust that another such letter will not come amiss. Sir, we the residents of Young Street, Claudelands, twelve months ago, petitioned the Council to do something to make our road and footpath passable. I received a letter stating the work would be attended to, and the grass was cleaned off the footpath to a width of about two feet. Some time later electric poles were erected In the middle of this narrow path, and on behalf of the petitioners I wrote the Council asking again that the road and footpath be put in order. I received a letter saying the “necessary improvements” would be done almost immediately. A little more grass was cleaned off the footpath and some months elapsed when sand was dumped on the road. This was considered the “necessary improvements.’’ Our road and footpath are now indescribable. We are unable to be served by tradesmen, which means we have, to a large extent, to be our own carriers, and this is most dangerous as it is difficult to negotiate the footpath empty handed. I trust, sir, that the indifference of the Council to our “necessary improvements” will be remedied, and that we will receive what is our every right as ratepayers to have, namely, a respectable road and footpath.—l am, etc., E. WILLS, (on behalf of the petitioners). ' Young Street, Claudelands., June 25. 1923.
