AMERICA'S DRY REGIME.
TRANSPORT OF LIQUOR, PROPOSED TEST 'CASE. Australian and N.Z. Cabld Assn. LONDON, June 22. \ Quite a fleet of large liners, including the White Star's steamers Olympic and CTedric, the Cunarders Berengaria, Aquitania, Caronia, and Albania, are co-operating in providing test cases in America by carrying under seal, liquors for the return journey from America. The shipping companies have notified tile British Government of their plan, but the latter, so far, is not' taking official cognisance of the matter. A high official in the Foreign Office stated to-day,- "We have no official knowledge of the sealing up of liquor aboard the Berengaria, or any other ship. In any case, what becomes of it after it has left our waters is of no account, so far as the British Customs is concerned. If the American Government seizes, confiscates, or throws liquor overboard within the three miles limit, we cannot protest. They would be acting in accordance with international law. Any possible test case would be simply between the American Government and the British shipping companies."
