The Earl of Stanhope in the House of Lords asked would the Government publish figures showing the minimum percentages of different varieties of foodstuffs which it was considered necessary for strategic reasons Should be gro*wn in Britain and the Dominions. The Earl of Clarendon replying, said that it would bo impossible to arrive at even approximate figures. The solution of the problem would necessarily vary with changing conditions of defence of sea transport. The problem was further complicated by the great distances between Britain and the Dominions.
