In the competitions last Saturday Ngaruawnhia seniors, at Huntly, brought off rather a mild surprise by beating Huntly by six points to three. The game was fast and exciting, and Ngaruawahia well deserved their win. This victory now brings the two clubs level for championship honours. Mr R. T. Hill was referee. At Taupiri, Orint had their first win of the season by defeating Taupiri by 15 points to 5. The latter team consisted of five seniors and eight juniors, so that the result was not a surprise. Mr Abbott was referee. In the junior round Huntly defeated Ngaruawahia by 10 points to 8, after a hard-fought game. Mr Johnson was referee. The Taupiri “colts” beat Ngaruawahia “colts” by 5 points to 3. It is very probable that the City team, of Auckland, will visit Lower Waikato on June 30 to play a combined team. There is still a very busy season ahead of the League in this district, as many outside Leagues have challenged for the Endean Memorial Shield, which Lower Waikato has held for 12 years. Huntly, holders of the Draflin Cup, will also have to play challenge matches against the other clubs in the League.
