ERUPTION OF, ETNA.
■ ♦ FORMER FURX RESUME^ TOWNS STILL THREATENED. CASTIGLIONE SURROUNDED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. 5 Received June 22, 11.30 a.m. ROME, June 21. The hopes that Etna’s eruption was dying down were disappointed last night, when the volcano resumed its former fury and belched up cinders in enormous quantity. Great valumes of lava are pouring down the slopes. It is still impossible to forecast whether Linguaglossa and Castiglione will escape. The former is being gradually surrounded by the lava stream. Engineers are working desperately digging trenches in the threatened regions in order to divert the lava. The King joined the terrified refugees, assuring them that every effort would be made to house and feed them. He visited the stricken regions and went close to the flowing lava, encouraging the engineers. The American Ambassador has arrived at Catania to assist in the work of succour. Signor Mussolini and other Ministers are expected to-day. Subscription lists for "the homeless have been opened all over the country, and are meeting with generous response.
