Jurors summoned to attend at the Supreme Court, Hamilton, on Monday, June 25, will not be required. The Hamilton Chief Postmaster has been advised under date of 20th iust. that the Pacific Cable Board announces that owing to the congestion of traffic week-end cables will probably suffer a delay of fen days. The new light lower on Ohcna Island, oposile Mercury Bay, has been completed, and was lighted last evening for the first time. It should prove a great boon to vessels using Ihe inner passage up and down Hie East Coast. The light show’s a one-second flash, and is observed for five seconds.

An auctioneer’s license was granted Messrs Menzies and Gollop by the Hamilton Borough Council at its meeting on Wednesday.

The premises of George Fowlds, Ltd., Queen Street, Auckland, were entered by a burglar on Wednesday night, but the haul consisted only of small change, totalling a little over £6, which was abstracted from • the cash register.

An interesting memento of the Hamilton Bowling Club was exhibited at the annual meeting held last evening. This consisted of the minutes of club extending over a period of 2i years, which were submitted in neatlybound form. The first meeting of the club was held on November 21, 1901. The Hamilton City Band held an excellent practice last nigigf, despite the fact that they have been idle for several months. There was a fine attendance of old members, while several new players were present. The bacd, which promises to be stronger than ever, will play in Victoria Street this evening.

An assistant master, named Cohen, at a Stepney Council School (London), was demonstrating before a science class of 50 boys, when a flask containing sulphuric acid exploded, injuring .Mr Cohen and 19 boys. Though many were half maddened with pain, the discipline of the boys was splendid.

Permission was granted at the last meeting of the Ngaruawahia Borough Council to the Whatawhata Coal Company to use streets for the construction of a railway siding to connect its line wdth the wharf' on the Waipa River near the point. This would greatly facilitate the handling of goods borne by the river, and should lead to a considerable development of navigation.

Replying to a- deputation of Otago M’s.P., which asked that the weekend excursion fares between Dunedin and Queenstown, and Invercargill and Queenstown, abolished several years ago, should be restored, the Minister for Railways said he regarded the matter as very important. He proposed to go in for a progressive railway policy. The request would receive full and probably favourable consideration.

At the Juvenile Court at Hamilton this morning, before Mr H. A. Young, S.M., a'Maori boy of twelve years of age was charged with stealing £lO from a store at Taupiri, and also with the theft of £1 3s 7d from the DairyCompany office in that locality. It was shown that the lad had been before the Court in January last, for the theft of a bicycle. The Magistrate committed the lad to the receiving home at Hamilton.

Father Gondringer, who recently returned from a tour abroad, has written to the general manager of the Tourist and Health Resorts Department (Mr BV M. Wilson), returning lantern slides which were provided him for his trip some eighteen months ago. Father Gondringer, in his letter, states that he lectured with the slides in every country through which he travelled, and in four different languages. On one occasion they were shown in a public square in Eurqpe to a crowd of between 8000 and 10,000 people, and the slides proved very interesting to everyone who saw them. Father Gondringer concludes: “If I have been able to render my adopted country some service by helping to make her known, I owe it, to a great extent, to your kind help." The annual meeting of the Te Awamutu Terminating Building Society was held in the. Oddfellows’ Hall, Market Street, last evening, when Mr F. H. Vile, chairman of directors, presided over a fair attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. Mr Vile, in moving the adoption, stated that he thought it was the best balance-sheet ever presented to the shareholders at an annual meeting. He drew attention to the fact that after reducing the levy for working expenses there was still a substantial profit in this account, which points to the fact that there will be a further reduction in the levy again this year. He also drew attention tO' the successful opening of the second group, and asked all shareholders in both groups to join in getting more- subscribers in this group. In conclusion attention was drawn to the fact that this was the first year the working account had shown a 'profit. The resolution was seconded by Mr Dawson and carried unanimously. The ballot for the election of three directors resulted in the return of Messrs Vile, West and Walker, the retiring directors. Messrs English and Luxford were appointed shaieholders for the ensuing year.
