MEDICAL STUDENTS.
MR FOWLDS 1 COMPLAINT. REPLY FROM DR. CAMERON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Dr. Cameron (Chancellor of the Otago University), replying to Hon. G. Fowlds' letter to Air Massey protesting against further large grants to the Otago medical student schools, gave figures showing the . districts from which students in medical and dental schoolsa came to the medical school for the two years named by Mr Fowlds and the dental school for the last year. Mr Fowlds said from Otago in 1921 came 54 students. The actual number that year was 27. In 1922, he said, 34 came from Otago, the actual number being nine. Canterbury in 1921 was credited by Mr Fowlds with seven students, whereas the actual number of Canterbury students at the medical school was 15. For the year following Mr Fowlds credited Canterbury with one student instead of seven. For the Victoria College district in 1921 Mr Fowlds gave seven, whereas the actual number was 20; and for 1922 he gave oni,y four in place of 18. In 1921, Mr Fowlds said, there.came from Auckland district 11, but there were 14. For 1922 his figure was 14 instead of 19. For the present year the total number of medical students was 357, of whom 140 resided in the Otago University district, 50 in Canterbury, 103 in the Victoria College district, and Gl in Auckland district. i
