WHTTIORA BRIDGE.

CERVICES OF P.W.D. ENGINEER. PARTIAL HELP OFFERED. f i Writing in regard to the Council's application for the services of a member of the staff of the Public Works Department in regard to the proposed new traffic bridge at Hamilton, the Engineer-in-Chief of the Department (Mr F. W. Furkert) advised the Borough Council last evening that it was quite unusual for Public Works officers to do work for borough councils. It was realised, however, that this was a very important work which interested far more of the country than the borough alone. Therefore, Mr Furkert added, he would be glad to allow one of his officers lo collaborate with the borough engineer as to the amount of information that should be given to intending tenderers. He could not approve, nor would ho agree, to recommending the Minister to approve of (the Department undertaking the actual work of obtaining the necessary sections, borings, and other information without which the bridge could not be designed.—The matter was referred by the Council to the Legal and Finance Committee.
