SYSTEMATIC FRAUD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Monday. In the Supreme Court to-day Ernest William McCtirdoll, an officer of the Repatriation Department, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment on two charges of theft of the moneys of the Department and 19 charges of forgery. Mr Justice Chapman described the offences as a systematic course of fraud. YOUNG CRIMINALS. WELLINGTON, Monday. In the Supreme Court Henry George Smith, a young lad, who was described as a dangerous criminal, was oMcred three years’ detention on charges of breaking, entering and theft. Jack Johnston, aged 22; for breaking, entering and theft at New Plymouth, was sentenced to three years’ hard labour. FINED FOR PAKAPOO. WELLINGTON, Monday. As a result of a raid on a pakapoo shop In Haining Street, on Saturday afternoon, Nga Chong was arrested for being the keeper of a common gam-ing-house, and Chow Diclc, Ah Chong, Ah Sung, John Smellbridge, William Bird, James Dawson, and Theodore Dawson for being found in a common gaming house. In the court to-day the Chinamen and Smellbridge were remanded till Friday, and the others were fined £2 each.
