THE SEWERAGE WORKS.
GOOD PROGRESS OF THE SCHEME. VALUE OF VIEWING FIRST-HAND. The Mayor, in remarking upon the progress of the sewerage work, and in particular on portion of the main trunk line at Claudelands, informed the Council last night that this was an exceedingly good piece of work performed in a gully where difficulties were very great. It was away from the public view. While the Works Committee always did so, he would like all members of the Council at least to inspect it. as well as all portions of the scheme. The assistant-engineer stated that seven different contracts were under way, another had been let that day, while tenders for two more would close next week. Cr. lien/, said that the Council should go in a body and look at Ibis and all works periodically. If the people, too. could see the works they would learn of their progress and the difficulties encountered, and as a result some miKht not be so prone to criticise' as they were on some matters concernin- the borough.
