DELAYED CONFERENCE.
REASON OF POSTPONEMENT. STATEMENT BY COLONIAL OFFICE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. * LONDON, March 8. The Colonial Office states that the delay in holding the Imperial Economy Conference is entirely due to circumstances beyond either the Dominions’ or Britain’s control—notably the elections \in New Zealand, the disturbed political conditions in Canada and South Africa, and the impending general election in Newfoundland. This explanation is necessary because the newspapers’ cable messages from Australia indicate that Australia is impatient over the delay. Mr Bonar Law, within a fortnight after the British elections, communicated with the Do-, minions requesting their views upon a proposal to hold an economic conference in April, preceding the Imperial Conference in June, The Dominions' replies revealed the impossibility of car .ying out the programme, which has' been now changed I to a period between September and November, when it is proposed to hold both conferences concurrently. It is suggested that the economic experts should meet simultaneously with the Premiers’, thereby shortening the proceedings.
