IMPERIAL INSTITUTE.
FUTURE IN THE BALANCE. • • (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) • LONDON, March 7.
The committee composed of the High Commissioners is completing its inquiry into the Imperial Institute’s future, which is dependent on'their finding, which will result either in increased activity or closing down. Australia’s support is lukewarm, but New Zealand is enthusiastic. Sir Jas. Allen, in an interview, said the Institute was starving for want of money. The Dominion would support a great Imperial ideal of splendid unifying influence, in addition to practical uses. In these days, when the Dominions are feeling their strength and have a tendency to act on their own, it is most important to keep alive such Imperial strings which tend to hold us together.
