SPENDING WITHIN INCOME

The Prime Minister made a statement to-day showing a greatlyimproved condition in regard to the Dominion’s finances.

The revenue and the expenditure for the 11 months ended February 28, compared with those for the corresponding period of last year, are as follow:—•

1922-23. 1921.22. Revenue .. £22,110,189 £20,220,801 Expenditure .. 22,588,243 25,042,314

Excess of Expenditure .. £148,054 £4,815,513

Revenue is greater by £2,213,388, while expenditure is less by £2,454,071, the total improvement being £4,067,459. s The Prime Minister added that the effect of the saving and reductions in expenditure is indicated by the figures, but to stabilise the position and to keep the national expenditure within the national income and so enable us to reduce taxation, a continuance of strict supervision over spending power is essential.
