A HUGE CONCERN.

CO-OPERATIVE DAIRYING. Yesterday a large contingent of pressmen representative of the South Auckland district accepted an invitation extended by the management of the New Zealand Go-operative Dairy Company to inspect the operations at the Frankton factories* and to obtain a better insight into the working of the huge business. The day proved both instructive and enjoyable, and it is not too much to say that every member of the party, though he previously recognised that the company was one of some magnitude, was somewhat amazed at the scale of operations. The whole process from the receiving of the cream at the receiving stage till it leaves the factory under one of the company's brands, was fully explained, as was also the several processes in the manufacture of casein. The butter box and cheese crate factories were a revelation, the members of the party being astonished at the dexterity of the operatives. The can-making factory was also visited. Here the latest machinery is in process of installation, and when this is completed, labour will be reduced to an absolute minimum. The whole of the factories are a fine example of organisation efflciencv and economy, and the same remark applies to the office, where the party was shown the methods cmployed in dealing with the individual accounts, the- system of calculation, and the issue of the cheques. A complete check is provided throughout, and a'mistake is well-nigh an impossibility. • Messrs Goodfellow, Sinclair and Heighway imparted a lot of information upon the various aspects of the industry, and at the conclusion of the day the members of the party expressed the pleasure they had derived from their day's outing, and also their conviction that the dairy farmers of the province had in the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company an institution of which they should be proud.
