CRICKET IN ENGLAND
YORKSHIRE THE CHAMPIONS. (Australian and N.Z. Gable Assn.) LONDON, September 1. Yorkshire has won the county cricket championship with a percentage of I 73.89. Nottinghamshire is second with 71.53, Surrey third with 66.95, and Kent fourth with 63.70. The following matches concluded to-day:— Notts, 174 and 58 for one wicket, beat Hampshire, 157 and 73. Richmond took nine wickets for 21. I. Newman, the Hampshire bowler, played to-day, having apologised to both captains for his display of temper yesterday. Leicestershire, 143 and 76, beat Gloucestershire, 73 and 72. Astill took six wickets • for 28 and four for 37, and Geary, took four for 42 and six for 26. They bowled throughout both innings. .'■.'-, * Kent, 196 for nine wickets declared, beat Sussex, 47 and 126. Freeman, who took nine wickets for 11 runs yesterday, took eight wickets for 56 runs in Sussex's second innings. This is only the twelfth time that a bowler has taken 17 wickets in a flrst-class match. ■•■■,';■ Warwickshire, 244, drew with Surrey, 104 for two wickets, the match being abandoned because of rain.
