WAIKATO SUB-PROVINCIAL. ; MONTHLY EXECUTIVE MEETING. At the monthly executive meeting of the Waikato sub-provincial brand) of the New Zealand Farmers' Union there were present Messrs J. S. Fisher (president), McKay, Lye, Holmes, Simmonds, Clarke, Hooper,, and Duxfield. Loading Bank, Eureka. —Mr Hooper said the work was of utmost importance, for it was taking nine men now to load cream where four could manage last season. w The secretary reported that the Railway Department had notified the office that the work was under consideration. It was agreed that a letter be forwarded to the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and also to Mr J. A. Young. M.P., asking for support in having the work proceeded with immediately. Herd-testing.-—The secretary's action and work in connection with the newly-formed Waikato Farmers' Union Herd Testing Association was approved. Mr "McKay, in moving the executive's hearty approval of Mr Sch'mitt's action in starting the new Waikato Farmers' Union Herd Testing Association, said that the only fly in the ointment was the farmer himself. Calf Club.—A letter was received from Mr H. D. Talt, 8.A., asking the Union to appoint a representative to the proposed organisation to promote the Calf Club movement to arrange, uniform rules, to secure the best advice and bring about generally uniformity of work. Mr S. Lye was appointed as the executive's -representative. It was decided to hold the next meeting of the executive at Huntly in accordance with a request from that district. Judging Stock at Show. —A recommendation, which was finally adopted, was received from Mr Roach, Whatawhala, that judges when judging stock of various classes at shows should make available to the public the reasons and points on which judgment of an animal is made.

• It was agreed, further, that a copy of 'this recommendttion be sent to the various show committees. Hamilton Chamber of Commerce. — A letter was received notifying the appointment of all secretaries and presidents of branches as hon. members to the Chamber. The executive generally was of the opinion that the compliment paid to the Union by the Chamber of Commerce would bring about far-reaching results. Hide and Skin Sale (Horotiu branch Remit). —A remit was.received from the Horotiu branch that a weekly hide and skin auction sale be held in Hamilton. The feeling of the executive generally was that a weekly sale was not feasible, but that there was quite room for one monthly.

_ j j MATAMATA BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Matamata Farmers' Union was held "on Saturday evening, Mr Rollett presiding. ,-■'■'■"'. Cattle Tick Regulations. The chairman drew attention to the fact that upwards of. fifty horses h'ad recently been brought into Matamata district from T e Puke, and that the only precaution taken against carrying -the tick had been that the'animals had been sprayed, not dipped, as provided by the-regulations. It was explained that Te. Puke fis situated, in what Is known as A area, whereas Matamata i-i in B area. Animals transferred from A to B area \yjre '.required by the regulations to be dipped, though not .'ri the reversev case. It was explained that in bringir.% the matter up" for discussion no reflection was cast upon the purchasers —the whole chh\g being a. question of principle and the strict enforcement-of the regulations-. It was decided to communicate with the Minister of Agriculture, drawing attention to the position, and expressing the opinion that the' regulations should be more strictly enforced. Herd-Testing, Etc. It was decided that discussion of the suggestion to form a Herd-Testing Association, and .of the rates paid by owners to sharemilkers be deferred until next meeting. Finance. Mr Simpson and the secretary submitted a report on the Provincial Executive's 1922 balance-sheet as compared with those of former years. The report proved conclusively that as a result of the ever increasing amount of the provincial levy on members' subscriptions, the finance of the executive showed no improvement, whereas the number of members had steadily decreased, consequent upon Ihe increased subscriptions fixed from time to time. \ It was decjcled to write the provincial office drawing attention to the actual position, and pointing out that 1.1:c increaOig amount of subscription was not pr.-ving satisfactory.
