His Honor Mr Justice Stringer is in Hamilton presiding over the sittings of the Supreme 'Court. His associate is his son, Mr t. Stringer.
It is announced that Sir W. E. Davidson's term as State Governor of New South Wales will be extended for one year, provided the British Government is favourable. . £ Captain W. The death is reported from Thames of Mr Peter Weir, who for many years was engaged at mines in that district until his retirement some ten years ago.
At this month's executive meeting of sun -provincial board of the N.Z. Farmers' Union, a vote of sympathy .with the family of the late Mr T. 0. Hodgson, of Tamahere, a former member of the Union, was passed. The death is reported from Palmer--gton North of Mr Samuel Paul, of Rangitikei Line, at the age of 83 years. The late Mr Paul came td New Zealand aj quite a "young man, being attracted to the West Coast gold fields. After remaining there for a while he moved to the Timaru district, ■where he acquired a farm and followed the pursuit of farming for several years. Later he came North, and settled at Palmerston North some 35 or 40 years ago. The late Mr Paul leaves a widow and growh-up family of five sons and four daughters, among whom are Mr William Paul (Otorohanga) and Mrs Scotnie (Hamilton).
