Farm Bohoo| at Ruakura. The Auckland Provipolal Agricultural Educational Committee solicited support in furtherance of the fi r9t step towards the realisation of establishing a farm school at Ruakura. Mr F. W. Walters favoured the suggestion. He went further, and considered -that local school plots should be encouraged, and the produce thereupon exhibited at the various shows. The Ruakura scheme is a good one conditionally that the boy's are allowed to do. the work, Cr. Glynn said that the hoys at Ruakura had their share of work to do. The Chairman: That’s the proper thing. It was agreed to support the proposal, and to appoint Cr. W. A. Clark as the Council’s nominee to further the project. No. 8 R?ad. Messrs T. G. Hart and Henry and other settlers in the vicinity of the north end of No. 8 road, Waitoa, are particularly anxious to see the completion of the'formation on this road. As the estimates are being prepared, the writers trusted that provision would be made for a grant towards this work. A bridge crossing the Waharoa drain at the No. 8” road is also needed. The Council decided to write Mr Taylor, land drainage engineer to the department, asking for a conference of engineers to discuss a drainage scheme for the locality in question. Plako Road. Mr R. Matthews, hon. secretary of the Piako Road Settlers’ Association, wrote drawing’ Council’s attention to the adverse condition of a portion of Piako Road from the Motumaoho station to the Confiscation line. The Waikato County generously completed the claying up to the Piako boundary. From that point there Is a stretch of about a mile of almost impassable road. > •>■ h-, - i The engineer and Cr. A deputation comprising Messrs Ferguson, Starke, Seifert, and Noble waited on the Council as representing the Morrinsville and Kiwjtahi ridings, to oppose their inclusion in the Thames Harbour Board scheme. AH their produce went to Auckland, where a great deal of capital had been invested in freezing works. From a dairying point of view the f.ewer ports that were constructed the better, for if all dairy produce was concentrated-at the one port quicker methods would b e provided for clearances. It was urged that the ridings in question be , excluded from the Board’s area. —Mr Starke said there was no reason why they should he included, for their interests centred in the Auckland port.—Messrs Seifert and Noble spoke on similar lines. If the Thames harbour had a tendency to Improve farming conditions generally, probably no objection would-be made, but there was no beneficial object to be attained by including them in the sphlme—seeing that (hey are fully 40 miles from the Thames. They were not likely to use the port. They could not understand why they had been included, for their capital had been centred in the Auckland Freezing Works, and therefore the Auckland port was the most accessible and beneficial to them. —The Council agreed to support the request. , A deputation comprising Messrs Jenson, Speedy, and Hedley, Grown tenants in the Hauraki county, waited on the Council, and stated that they wished lo secede from the Hauraki County, and join up with the Piako County. The general configuration or the district pointed to the fact that the petitioners’ interests were directly connected with the Piako County. The deputation trusted that the Council would give it its fullest support.—Cr. Glynn moved, seconded by Cr. Bell, that the whole of the Tahuna riding be included in the Piako Council, acting on the advice of its soliciors, Messrs P. Gilchrist and Son. —The resolution was carried.
A large deputation representing settlers on No. 8 and 9 roads, Waitoa, waited on the Council respecting the need for expending money thereon. It was pointed out, by Mr Ray, clerk, that one settler’s section was omitted from a petition praying for a loan to be expended over a special area. It is necessary now to lodge a fresh petition, which will take at least a month.—The deputation agreed to arrange for a fresh petition ter contain all the necessary particulars. Mr A. E. Stockley, Otway settlement, requested Council to construct a culvert across the road fronting his property, as rain water drains across his front thereby causing damage lo young grass. If Council supplied the pipes he undertook to carry out the necessary work.—Referred to engineer and Cr. Clark, with power to act.
