DANCE AT CAMBRIDGE.

On Tuesday evening the citizens of Cambridge tendered a complimentary dance to the Cambridge Volunteer Fire Brigade, in appreciation of services rendered the town by the latter in respect of prevention of Tbss of life and property by lire. Unfortunately the weather conditions were most unfavourable, but notwithstanding this, the townspeople showed their appreciation of the brigade and its work by attending as they did, no less than 110 couples being present. The music was supplied by Messrs Banfleld's orchestra in their usual perfect style, whilst Hie floor was also well spoken of. The function was a most pleasant one. For non-dancers and siltcrs-out cards were indulged in on the stage. The ladies' committee was: The Mayoress (.Mrs S. Lewis) and Mesdames Mm. While, E. N. Souler, 11. Hall, Collins, Gascoigne, A. \V. Gane, C. Miller, W. Thorpe, 11. Vausc and W. K. Reeve. Gentlemen's committee: The Mayfr (Mr S. Lewis), and Messrs A. 11. Gascoigne, G. A. Clark, A. Gane, C. J. Miller, H. Ferguson, W. R. Edwards, W. H. Hall, D. Congalton, H. Vause, G. Drew,' and W. K. Reeve (secretary).. The table decorations were most artistically carried out, and reflect great credit on the ladies responsible, Mesdames Hugh Ferguson and H. Vause. Dance extras were contributed by Mrs W. R. Edwards and Misses I. Linslrom, 0. Wilkinson, McFarlane and Graham. As M's.C. Messrs H. Vause, G. Burns, .J Byrne and A. L. Clark carried out their duties in a most efficient manner. Approximately £23 was taken as a result of the dance, and this amount will go towards the installation of a fire syren in Ihe borough.
