° \ PLEASING FUNCTION. PRESENTATION TO TEACHER. Mr Francis Tooman, first assistant of the Hamilton East School, was presented yesterday afternoon with a very prettily inscribed gold pencil case by the pupils of Standard VI. as a small token of their gratitude to him for his efforts on their behalf, and of their appreciation of the consideration he has extended to them. The spokesman said they all realised that the fine result of 56 certificates of Proficiency, one of Endorsed Competency, and three of Competency out of a possible of GO was due to Mr Tooman's efficiency as a teacher, combined'with his untiring industry. ■ Mr Tooman thanked the class /lor their complimentary references to himself, and for their valuable and useful present. He said they themselves had by their industry and attention to duties contributed in no small measure to the success achieved. Mr Tooman has never yet had a failure in Standard "VI of any pupil he has taught throughout the year.
