Half a ton of gel ignite exploded at the Oakbank oil mines, 12 miles from Edinburgh. The detonation was heard over seven counties, and rattled windows from Edinburgh to Falkirk. Later. The Oakbank explosion occurred in a gunpowder factory at Corninghouse, and caused destruction to three other mills in the vicinity. It was followed by a second explosion.
