LAND AGENTS' BILL
LEGJSLATOR3' SUSPICIONS. FOSTERING LAND SPECULATION.

The House reached the Land Agents' Bill early this afternoon, and spent some hours in a discussion on the f business methods of agents and kia- : dred mailers. i The Minister for Internal Affairs • told the House that the land age.nts ' had urged him to give them the right to collect commission on sales if they could prove services rendered, even when there was nn authority in writing. He did nol think this changedesirable, but had promised that the agents would have a chance to : ;ive evidence before a committee. The debate that followed showed , that a good many members of 'he ' .House regard land agents with suspicion. Some speakers said that there j were too many land agents, with the r°sult that speculation wars fostered and prices forced up unnecessarily. The Bill, which strengthens the law M regarding the registration of land ' agents, was described as protecting ■- agents, bul nol the public.
