—* Mischel Gherniavsky, 1.1 le celebrated ’cellist, recently purchased a violincello from Mr Slealh, proprietor of a music shop m George Street, Brisbane, for £IOOO. The Velio was? made by Joseph Ojuarncrius in 1730, and is one of four known to bo the work of this rrrakei - . Mischel Cherniavsky heard of thfe existence of this treasure four years ago, and several limes wrote to Mr Slealh making offers for the instrument. Mr Slealh declined to part with it, rejecting an offer of £7OO, until recently, when, having given up playing himself, he decided to accept the tempting price offered by the young musician. The ! instrument, which is described as 1 perfect, came to Brisbane several | years ago as the property of an old ! musician who has since died.
