WAIKATO AREA MEETING. A meeting of the Waikato subProvlncial Area of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union was held at the Union’s rooms. Hood street, yesterday. There were present: Messrs Duxfleld (in the chair), J. S- Fisher (Monavale), T. G. Roach CWhatawhata), S. Lye (Matangi), A. Morgan (Gordonlon), Hooper (Eureka), W. Bee (Hautapu), E. McGregor and W. A. Porter (Te Kowhai), organiser to the Waikato sub-provinc.ul district. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Walter Sevill and lies.' • Now Branch at Eureka. Mr Hooper was welcomed as a new delegate. He reported that as a result of the efforts of the Union’s organiser, Mr Porter, a branch had been forme I at Eureka, and he (Mr Hooper) had been elected representative pro tern. The speaker was convinced that it was inadvisable to pull against the Dairy (Farmers’ Union, and advocated an amalgamation. .".AT Suburban Mails. The secretary of the Hautapu branch forwarded a copy of a resolution his branch had sent to the PostmasterGeneral. The resolution had been car.ried at a large meeting of farmers, and protested strongly against the proposed alterations in the arrangements re rural mall delivery. Several members spokein .support of the Hautapu branch’s resolution, Mr Duxfleld pointing out that it was monstrous that farmers — the backbone of the country—should be handicapped by unsatisfactory delivery of their mails. Mr McGregor opined that an extension and not a curtailment of mails delivery should bo made- —It was eventually decided mat Mr Duxfleld put the matter before the meeting of the Dominion executive. Huntly West Branch Secedes. G. Brown, secretary of the Huntly West branch of the Union, wrolc that owing to tlie membership of the branch Laving dwindled down to seven and owing to the increase to 30s in the sub-provincial fees, it bad been decided to secede from the Waikato subprovincial district. —It was decided that Mr Porter visit the district and endeavour to work up more enthusiasm. Super-tax on Land. A copy of a letter the Canterbury Sheep Owners’ Union suggest sending to every member of Parliament was received. The letter respectfully suggests Hie abolition of the 33 1-3 cent- super-tax on land.—Decided to give the proposal every support. Publication of Official Organ. W. Huey, Auckland provincial secretary, wrote informing Hie branch that the first publication of The Country; a farmers’ political paper, would make its appearance next month. The Moratorium Extension. Tlie Hamilton branch of the Union forwiydod Hie following resolution: “That we emphatically protest against the extension of tha Moratorium Act. ’ 1 Mr .McGregor did not altogether agree with Ihe drafting of (ho resolution, but agreed with the principle. He was in favour of a committee being set up in
each district to consider each case on its merits.—lt was decided that the resolution be sent to the other branches for their approval. General. In the case of new branches which had been formed when IJc year had half elapsed, it was decided to' accept half fees as subscriptions for the year half gone. Mr lies wrote asking that a strong resolution he parsed protesting against any tariff increase for the purposes of bolstering up local trades or on nccessi ties——Speaking on Mr lies’ proposal, Mr Dux field Said that the Dominion executive had been very active in the matter. —It was decided, after some discussion, to reaffirm the Union’s pre- 1 vious resolution on the matter.
