SEVERE INFLUENZA
THREE FATAL CASES. PROMPT MEASURES TAKEN. (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association). LEVIN, Saturday. An outbreak of pneumonic influenza .is reported from the native pa at Muhanoa West, near Ohau, of a serious character. A fatal ease was recorded in Die middle of last month, the victim being u school girl. The disease lias developed since then at different points, two more deaths of young children having occurred. The outbreak was not notified to the licallli authorities until Diis week, when Die district medical ofliccr found fourteen cases amongst adults and children.
The authorities look prompt measures. A marquee for a temporary liospilal was erected yesterday. All the cases are being collected to-day. 'Nurse Lewis, the Government native nurse, at Child, has been pul in charge of the hospital. The pa has been isolated. OUTBREAK AMONG MAORIS. ELEVEN PATIENTS ISOLATED. PALMERSTON N., Saturday. Eleven Maoris at ea pa four miles from Ohau are suffering from a severe form of influenza. They have been completely isolated by the Health Department, and placed in charge of an experienced nurse.
