PREMIER STOREY DEAD
WIDESPREAD REGRET. (United Press Association.) Received October 5, 7.15 p.m. SYDNEY, October 5. The Premier, Mr John Storey, died early this afternoon. When the House received the news it adjourned for a week. Widespread grief is expressed by all sections of the community at tlie Premier's untimely death at the age of 52, when by a trip abroad he had widened his outlook and had equipped himself fully for important work. Parliament was adjourned for a fortnight. Mr Fuller paid a touching tribute to the dead Premier, whom he characterised as an able and trusted leader, who had earned the respect of all.
Mr Kccgan will fill the vacancy in the House.
The late Mr John Storey succeeded Mr W. A. Holman in the State Premiership, he being leader of the Labour Party which defeated the Nationalists in 1919 by one vote. Though a Labour Premier, he was not of the extreme element, with whom he had frequently had friction because of his moderation. He visited England last year, and reported a most successful mission. He has been in unsatisfactory health for a lengthy period, and it was hoped that the voyage Home would prove beneficial. He, however, returned a hard-stricken man, and it was recognised that the end could not be long delayed, lie was held in high esteem by all, as he was recognised as an honest, capable, and conscientious man. and the news of his death, although not unexpected, will be widely regretted.
