A WIN FOR FRANKTON FINAL FOR STAG'S HEAD. Athletics and Frankton met in the final of Hie Stag's Heart competition, on Saturday afternoon, at Scddon Park. Kranklon were the flrsl to attack, and quickly forced the Greens. Play was kept, up in the Greens' territory. Fitzgerald sent Ihe Frankton backs away nicely from a scrum, but Ihc outside men failed to handle cleanly. Shortly a free was awarded Ifranklnn. Dufty godled. Kranklon -J. Athletics 0. Athletics rallied after this reverse, and terminating a nice bout of passing. I'ri: k scored. Glarkin's shot failed. Athletics .'!, Frankton 2. From a scrum in Athletics' territory. Fitzgerald. Ihc half, passed lo Mawhinry. who scored easily. Dufty goalcd. Frankton 7, Athletics I!. Shortly after the kick out, Glover secured and put in a line dash down the line. He was tackled by Dufty over Ihe line, but he got the ball down, .lack Clarkin goalcd from Ihe boundary and against the wind—a very' «%■ effort. Athletics 8, Franklon 7. The most spectacular piece of work up to this slagc took place byDavis opening up in Athletics' twentyfive, and passing to Brain, the latter ran practically the whole length of the field to score at the corner. A nice piece of play was suitably capped by u brilliant kick by J. Clarkin, making the scores read. Athletics 13, Franklon 7. Give and take play followed, and the referee's decision was shortly responsible for giving a. ruling against Athletics —a free that was given to Ihc wrong side—to be l'i Unwed by a try by Forbes. No goal resulted. Athletics 13, Frankton 10. From a forward rush shortly after, Veinall was rewarded for smart following up. Dufty failed to goal. Frankton 13. Athletics 13. Frankton, from a. scrvm on the line, were able to improve lln itposition by Fitzgerald dummying from behind the scrum. Dufty goaled, making the half-time score, Frankton 18, Athletics 13. Frankton pressed from the kick off of the second half and invaded Athletics' goal-line, when a bad take by Dufty enabled Glover and J. Clarkin to break through and the latter score under the posts. .1. Clarkin goaled. Athletics 18, Frankton IX. Brain had retired prior to Ihc last score, and another player accompanied him, making the Athletic side but 11 men. Dufty moved up to five-eights, ami was "prominent in the Frankton attack. A forward rush ended in a score and ,f. Dufty goaling. Frankton 23, Athletics 18. Immediately 'after a forward rally by Frankton ended in Maw--1 inney getting over under the posts. Dufty again goaled. Frankton 28, Athletics 18, Spurred on by this reverse, Athletics put some life into their movements. From the loose Glover got over at the corner. No goal resulted. Frankton were having all the best of things at this stage, and Athletics were compelled to force. The former continued to attack, and bad handling only prevented more points being scored against a side now reduced lo 10 men. •J. Athletics suffered from the loss of some of their best players, and they deserve every credit for Ihe good playing spirit shown throughout the season, when ihey have always put a team in the field.
