Clemenceau, speaking at the unveiling- of a statue to himself at St. Ilermine, in Vendome, said, ' We- made Germany bow the knee at Versailles; we had her signature to innumerable engagements, and with what result? The War criminals are not toeing tried by us; instead they are being carried off in triumph at Leipzig. Yesterday we were the conquerors; I hope the time will not come when we shall have to ask whether we are still victors." M. Clemenceau added that the Washington Conference might find it was an appropriate occasion to redress mistakes made in carrying out the terms of the treaty.
