RUGBY FOOTBALL

PRIMARY SCHOOL REP 3 HAMILTON BUYS BEATEN. Yesterday afternoon the Vermont Street Marist Brothers' primary school Rugby team met and defeated the Hamilton primary school reps, by six points to five. The Vermont street team won the Auckland Primary Schools' championship this year, and were a formidable proposition for the locals to tackle, especially in view of the fact that Hamilton was not able to put its best team in the Held. For the first few minutes of the game play was very even, the Hamilton boys setting the ball out of the scrum each time, however. From a scrum in front of the local goal Hamilton forced, but the visitors continued to press, ■being unlucky on two occasions to get over. Following a breach Vermont Street was awarded a free, the kick narrowly missing its object. The visitors were now confining play to the local quarter, and from a scrum Brady dived across. The kick failed. On the change over Vermont Street nearly scored again, Peebles reaching the ball just in time to force. Following I his play hovered for a time in mid[lelil, but taking advantage of a freekick the locals came up close to the visitors' territory, only to be quickly repulsed. The blues again advanced Id the a Hark, but the visitors worked the ball to a safer distance, and the half-lime bell went with play in midfield, and (.he scores —Vermont Street 3, Hamilton 0. Upon resuming neither side was able for some time in obtain any riislincl advantage, although if anything the visitors were holding the upper hand. A dribbling rush by the greens then carried play to the Hamilton line, but a force resulted, and the bail travelled up and down field for a term. A bit of sparkle was then added to the game by Darby (Vermont Street) making a ?ood run and passing to Thcroddi, who, however, just failed in the last bit to .set over, and Turner cleared- Later Brady again scored for Vermont Street. Tin' Aucklanders again swept down on the locals and gave them a torrid time for a few minutes. The Hamilton player, Pcchlerf, succeeded in getting his team out of difficulties by means of a good long kick from a free. The blues then came up into the, visitors' territory, greens relieving the pressure to a certain extent by a good mark. Not to be denied the blues came again, and Veilch scored a simple fry. which Peebles converted. The whistle immediately sounded, with the scores: Vermont Street G, Hamilton 5. Mi' L. W. W. Brown was referee.
