REBUILDING EUROPE

AMERICA'S PART. PROFESSOR BUTLER'S VIEWS;. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) NEW YORK, September 29. Professor Butler, in a speech at the opining of the 168th academic year at the Columbia University, said in the task of reconstructing Europe America has a part to play, both honourable and selfish. It is honourable for the ■American people to give support In rebuilding a broken world wherein they are the chief factor; it i s selfish because widely prevailing economic disorganisation' can be satisfactorily dealt'with by speedily restoring production and therefore the consuming powers of the millions of Europe, He who says this is no concern of ours, that we' must not, become involved in problems of other nations and continents, is blind to most obvious facts and the plainest teachings of American history.
