AMNESTY FOR 3000 SINN FEINERS. OFFER REGARDED AS GENEROUS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, August 12. The Cabinet will meet on Saturday to discuss de Valera’s reply, the purport of which is variously staled. On the one hand it is said that it contains nothing calling Mr Lloyd George urgently to London, and on the other hand, that de Valera demands a complete amnesty for 3000 Sinn Feiners now detained, which is a matter of the gravest importance, necessitating Mr Lloyd George’s presence in London. The Daily Chronicle’s lobbyist says that Hie Sinn Fein regards the Government’s offer as a generous one, which should form the basis of further negotiations. DE VALERA’S REPLY. PREMIER'S INTERPRETATION. REJECTION OF THE TERMS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received August 13, 1.20 p.m. LONDON, August 12. The Daily Express says that Mr Lloyd George regards de Valera’s letter, submitting counter-proposals, as a rejcct:on of the Government’s terms. The Sinn Fein leaders arc astonished at this interpretation. It is expected tliat the Cabinet will reply to do Valera on Saturday. In some quarters the belief is expressed that if an agreement is not reached Mr Lloyd George will appeal tc the country immediately on the question as to whether hostilities shall be resumed with Ireland.
