COMBINED BREEDERS ASSN.
ANNUAL MEETING. ANNUAL PEDIGREE CATTLE SALE. The annual meeting of the Combined Breeders' Association, in conjunction with the auctioneers, was 'held in Hamilton yesterday. There were present: Messrs A. E. Missen (in the chair), J. M. Ranstead, W. R. Whewell, A. H. Clement, J. Wallace, H. Gothorp, A. R. Clark (hon. secretary), while the Farmers* Auctioneering Co., the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Co. and Dalgety's Ltd., each bad a representative present. • • The remits were read by the secretary. The chairman, before putting them, said thaj; the pure-bred cattle sale held last year was a decided improvement on past years' sales. If the quality of the stock was to be improved drastic steps must be taken in refusing to pass for sale any cattle of an inferior kind. Up to the present they had had power only to reject for sale any cattle in an unfit condition. The ' Farmers' Auctioneering Company's representative remarked that the auctioneers were strongly in favour of commencing the sale of Jerseys At the same time as the Shorthorns were commenced. The remits were then carried. Election of Ovfficers. Mr A. E. Missen was proposed as president for the fourth year in succession. Mr Missen declined, on the grounds that it was only fair to the other breed societies that a breeder of nnother class of cattle should be elected. Mr A. W. Green was then elected president, and Mr Clark was re-elected hon. secretary.
Next Sale. It was decided to hold this year's pedigree sale at the Claudelands Showgrounds on October 4, entries to close on August 27. Late entries are to he accepted up till a week before the sale day, but such late entries would not be included in the catalogue, and would be charged 5s each entry fee. It was agreed to make it a recommendation to the auctioneers to have two auctioneers selling at the same time, and that both auctioneers commence selling at 10.30 a.m. The auctioneers are to be requested to have the catalogues available two ■weeks before the sale. Discussion arose re ihe passing of cattle at the sale by the Inspection Committee. The opinion was voiced that the committee had the power of rejecting only cattle that were in a diseased, starved or otherwise unfit condition.
It was resolved that all Breed Societies' rules regarding transfers of pedigree stock be read out prior to the sale of each breed.
Mr Ranstead moved that it be permissible for a breeder to place on each pen containing his animals advertising matter relating to the animals in the pen. Mr Ranstead was informed that there was nothing in the rules of the Association forbidding the vendor doing this.
It was agreed that the entry fee for all stock at the sale remain at 2s 6d per head. It was also decided that the nett proceeds of the entry fees collected from the sale be given to the Waikato A. and P. Association to help them in the erection of a cattle pavilion. A motion was adopted insisting thai a proper sale-ring be fenced off and the public be kept back from pressing into the ring.
Inspection Committee. "" A committee composed as follows for the inspection of pure-bred stock at the sale was set up: Messrs A. W. Green (Milking Shorthorns), J. C. Potts (Beer Shorthorns). W It. Whewelt (Priesians). H. Oothorp (Red Polls), A. E. Missen (Jerseys), and A. !i. Clement (Ayrshire). Inclusion of Phjs. Mr Gothorp suggested as a recommendation to the Association that pedigree pigs be included in the sals of 1!>22 and in following years. The meeting was in favour at *is.
