PARER'S LONG FLIGHT
BEGUN IN BAD WEATHER. (United Press Association.) Received August 3, 10.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, August 3. Lieut. Parer commenced his flight round Australia in a biting wind with rain and hail. He is accompanied by Messrs Mark Parer and Anthony Kane.
LATER. SERIOUS MISHAP. PAHER IN THE HOSPITAL. BROKEN TOE AND BRUISED LEGS. (United Press Association.) Received August 4, 10.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, August i. After travelling 40 miles, Parer's engines developed trouble. He landed safely, and sent his companions away to obtain wood for overhauling purposes. While they were away, Parer started to overhaul his engine. The strong wind, however, overbalanced him, and his legs and feet were caught in the revolving propeller, his big toe being broken, and both feet badly bruised. He is suffering severely from exposure. When his companions returned they removed him to the hospital.
