Mr Hughes (Prime Minister ol Australia), has booked his passage home by the Ormonde. Dr. A. McTaggart, of the Department of Agriculture, left Wellington for San Francisco by the Tahiti. Mr F. L. Armitage, Government bacteriologist, is in Hamilton in connection with the Supreme Court sittings.
Jascha Heifetz, the great violinist, appeared foix the first time in New Zealand at Auckland last night. . His playing aroused great enthusiasm.
The death is announced from Sydney of Mr Spencer William von Sturmer, formerly' a Judge of the New Zealand Native Land Court. Mr D. W. Duthie, general manager of the National Bank, is making satisfactory progress in Wellington. His condition' at one time gave considerable anxiety to his friends. Archbishop Redwood has left Wellington for Sydney, in order to attend a conference of Roman Catholic Bishops.
Mr John Cameron, who, during the lust twelve months, has been Dairy Instructor for the Giaxo Factory, Matamata, has been promoted to the position of Chief Dairy Instructor for the Glaxo Manufacturing Company of New Zealand, whose factories are in the Waikato and Manawatu districts. Lieutenant-Colonel E. H. Northcroft, D. 5.0., of Hamilton, officer in command of the New Zealand Field Artillery, Northern District, is in Wellington to attend the second annual reunion of the First Brigade, New Zealand Field Artillery, which served in the late war.
