The Prize Court has awarded prize money for the mystery ship, which sank a German submarine under plucky circumstances off Start Point in March, 1917, .Mathcson, the commander, gave evidence that the submarine fired a torpedo. He adopted decoy tactics, and the submarine came to the surface and openly attacked him. The mystery ship was holed in the engine-room, and became unsteerable, but Mathcson opened fire and sank the submarine after a short engagement.
