WESTFIELD MARKETS. Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd.. report:—At our Westflold weekly fat stock market our beef pens contained 402 head, comprising 218 steers, 153 cows and heifers, and i bull. There was a keener demand throughout, with values Arm at last week's quotations. Extra choice ox sold to £1 10s; choice and prime, £1 lis to £1 15s; ordinary and plain, £1 7s to £1 10s. Prime young cow and heifer beef, £1 5 S to £1 10s; ordinary cow beef, 17s to £1 4s; rough beef, 10s to 17s. Heavy prime sleers ranged in price from £l4 to £l6 10s; lighter prime, £ll to £l3 15s; light prime, £8 lis to £lO 10s; small and unfinished, £5 to £8 ss; heavy prime young cows and heifers, £9 to £10; lighter cows and heifers, £6 to £8 10s; other cows, £1 10s to £5 10s. Among the highest averages for steers were 13 from Thames Valley, £9 4s sd; 18 from Mr YV. G. Alexander, Putaruru, £8 4s 8d; 30 cows from the Waikato, £8 7s 9d. Sheep were penned in about average numbers, the quality generally being good. There was a steady demand, with values unchanged. Extra heavy prime wethers £1 5s 9d to £1 7s, heavy prime wethers £1 3s to £1 Ds 6d, medium to heavy prime £1 0s Gd to £1 2s 9d, lighter prime 18s Od to £l, light and unfinished 16s to 18s, best heavy prime ewes 19s to £1 Is, lighter prime 10s to 18s Od, light 14s to*lss Od (1292 sold). The lamb pens were moderately filled, a big proportion being unfinished. Values for all classes were similar to last report. Best heavy prime lambs £1 Is to £1 4s, lighter prime 17s to 19s 6d, light prime 14s to 16s 6d, unfinished 9s 3d to 13s 6d (353 sold). Fat and young calves were penned in average numbers. Competition was keen, and all vealers of good quality sold at improved prices. Heavy vealers £4 to £5 7s od, medium : £3 to £3 17s 6d, light £1 15s to £2 j 15s, smaller 18s to £1 10s, fresh dropped 5s to 15s (128 sold). Pigs i were yarded in small numbers. We quote extra choice oxen to 36s per 1001 b; choice and prime oxen 30s to 35s per 1001 b; rough and inferior oxen, 23s to 29s per 1001 b. Bidding was erratic, and generally prices were easier. Lambs, in average numbers, sold at late quotations. Messrs Dalgely and Co., Ltd., report having held their usual sale of fal stock at Westfield as follows: Beef. —A good yarding. Prices for prime cattle were maintained,«but unfinished sorts were hard to quit. Extra choice ox 365, prime 34s to 30s. plain 29s to 255: cows, extra prime 29s to 255. plain 20s to 15s. Sheep: A moderate yarding, the hulk being unfinished.
