INDIAN MISSION FIELD
GREAT NEED FOR WORKERS. Miss A. E. Henderson, of the Presbyterian Indian Mission, who is at present on furlough, and has been on a visit to her sister (Mrs Mathews, Hamilton) was entertained by the local branch of the Girls’ Auxiliary of the P.W.M.U. on Saturday afternoon at a birthday tea. There was a large gathering of members and friends to extend felicitations to Hie veteran missionary on her natal day, and a most enjoyable time was spent. At a subsequent mooting Miss Henderson gave a most interesting account of her experiences in the Indian field during her 26 years’ residence. Yesterday afternoon she gave an address to the scholars of St. Andrew’s Sunday school, keeping the rapt attention of the little ones/ as she told them of the work amongst Hie juvenile population of the Punjab Last evening there was a crowded congregation at St. Andrew’s Church when Miss Henderson gave an informative address on the work of the Indian field and its great possibilities. The burden of her message was Hie need for more workers who were required at once if the harvest is to bo garnered. She stated that the Church had nobly stood by the missionaries in so far as money was concerned. They had never had any anxiety on that account, for all their needs had been met, but they wanted workers. A doctor and several ordained missionaries were the most, urgent needs, but she made a fervid appeal to any young men or women, who were qualified to assist in the work in any way, and who heard the call, to respond thereto. The address made a deep impression. Miss Henderson will leave to-day for Auckland, and will remain in New Zealand until after the next meeting of the Presbyterian General Assembly, to beheld at Dunedin in November.
