Unemployment has produced a tragic chunge in thousands of South Welsh h.'ines. Their war-time earnings enalled the people to live in comparative affluence; they furnished homes in some degree of luxury. Now 40,00') are idle In Rhondda Valley alone, and acute distress exists among large families. The Daily Chronicle states the revtrse of fortune is pitiful. Pianos have been sold for £l2, and good kitchen chairs for Is each. The collier always irsisted on buying the best available piano. Now the same homes are often reduced to bare requirements of furniture, and in some even these have begun t: - . vanish.
