BRITISH COAL INDUSTRY
DECREASED OUTPUT. LEADS TO REDUCED WAGES. COAL PRICES RAISED AGAIN. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received March 1, 8.5 p.m. LONDON, February 28. It is officially stated that the advances to the coal miners under the November strike settlement are no longer payable, as, owing to trade depression, the output is now only 17,650,000 tons, compared with 19,040,000 for the SeptemLu;r quarter. Mr Evan Williams, president of the Mining Association of Great Britain, speaking at the South Wales Conciliation Board, said that only 16 companies out of 150 made a profit in January, The pithead prices for coal at Cardiff yesterday were raised from 5s to 10s. Best house coal is now 53s 3d per ton at the pithead. ,
