THE LAKE RESERVE
ACTION BY DOMAIN BOARD. FORWARD MOVE INTENDED. At last night’s meeting of the Hamilton Domain Board the chairman (Mr A Swarbrick) referred with gralillcation to the manner in which the Lake I'Ve serve is being used by the public, 'and especially by the children. He said it had given him much pleasure to see the large crowds enjoying rest and recreation in the lake and the reserve, and tie was very anxious to have various improvements carried out there. He therefore moved. "That the Parks Lonimillee he instructed to prepare a scheme for additional accommodation at the Lake Reserve.” "The Lake Reserve," said Mr Swarbriek, "is now used by thousands of persons residing in and around Hamib b n, and such use is rapidly increasing. The present accommodation, both for bathers and persons using the grounds for picnicking and oilier purposes, is quite inadequate. Furthermore, the fine has come when we must Rave a resident caretaker in order to protecl the trees and works of the Hoard on these grounds. If possible we should hr.ve a caretaker’s residence with rooms whore hot water and refreshments can he obtained, with a retiring room for ladies; and we should also, if possible, erect the dressing-sheds for men already approved. Of course the chief difficulty in tins mailer is to provide die necessary funds for these purposes, and I suggest that the committee should carefully consider what buildings are desirable and the cost of the same, and by what means the necessary funds can .<c provided.” Other members agreed that everything possible should he done to make the lake and its environs as attractive as possible, and the motion was carried.
