A Press Association cablegram from London stales that Lord Milner has been created a Knight of the Garter. Mr H, McCallum, M.P. for Wairau, who was with the Parliamentary Party on the Last Coast tour, had to return from Rotorua owing to sickness in hi* family. ’rile Hon. W. H. Harries, at Monoay’s meeting of the Matamata Town Board, wrote thanking the. Board for its expression of good wishes for his trip Homo. Sir William stated that ho would probably be returning by the end of July or early in August. VI a. meeting of the Auckland Board of education on Tuesday, the following appointments were authorised:—. Head teachers; Mr V. R, Vos, Patelonga. Assistants: Mr A. Fletcher, Hamilton Wesl; Miss J. W. Goombc, I’ranklon; Miss K. A. Burdelt-Sluart, Dora I Lira: Miss M. R. Wood, Tamahere; Miss N. I!. Strong, Tuhikaramea; Miss X. A. Bell, Tc Aroha. The members of (he Money Order Dcparlmml of the Hamilton Post Office, yesterday, presented one of their number, Mr N. G. Howe, who is about to be married, with a beautiful tea set. The presentation was made by the Chief Postmaster, Mr E. G. Stapp, who referred, in kindly terms,, to the pleasant relationship which existed amongst the members of the staff, proof of which was that afteraoon’s Miappy function. On behalf of iis colleagues of the Money Order Department, he wished Mr Rowe the greatest happiness in his married life. Mr Rowe made suitable response.
