EX-M.P.'S DIVORCE

- -*•— A SATISFACTORY SETTLEMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Friday. The Pearce divorce case and the complications arising from the departure of respondent, George Pearce, ex-member for Patea, with his daughter Hazel, allegedly in direct contravention to the orders of the Court, was finally disposed of to-day. Mr Myers, on behalf of Margaret Pearce, made an appeal for a decree absolute, and the Chief Justice assented. Mr Myers applied for the custody of one daughter, a minor, on (he understanding that the girl should be entitled to spend alternate week-ends with her elder sister at her father's house. The Chief Justice agreed. Mr Myers said in regard to alimony that Pearce had made provision in a manner satisfactory to petitioner, and therefore there was no necessity to ask for an order. Mr Treadwell said if His Honor considered that Pearce had directly or indirectly infringed the rights of the Court, he, on behalf of Pearce. wished to express sincere regret. The Chief .lustice accepted this, and said the solo reason why the issue concerning contempt, had been raised was to enforce civil rights, and these being satisfactorily settled, and defendant having expressed regret, he did not, think it necessary to say anything further.
