A HOMESTEAD BURNED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. OPOTIKI, Wednesday. A fire about midnight destroyed the homestead and contents owned and occupied by Mr Geo. Hawkins and his family. Mrs Hawkins was awakened by a noise, and investigations revealed the kitchen ablaze. The children were ■got out, also a piano and a few sundries. The building was insured in the State office. The amount is not availaide, but it, is believed to be in the vicinity of £IOOO. 'i’he homestead was situated on the Paerata ridge, about six miles from Opotiki.
