STORM ON ENGLISH COAST

♦ SEVERAL VESSELS WRECKED. DIFFICULT RESCUE WORK, (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received December 5, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, December 3. Several wrecks occurred during a storm on the west and south coasts during last night, including the big steamers Ansgir and Hathor on the coast of Cornwall. The two crews, totalling 69, were rescued, that of the Hathor by life-boats and rocket apparatus. The Hathor, with a German crew, was interned in Chili throughout the war. The Ansgir belonged to the Ministry of Shipping, and was about to undergo survey before being handed over to the Japanese Government. When she struck it was impossible to launch the boats, and an apprentice of 19 swani ashore with a line, communication being then obtained by means of a breeches buoy. SHIP'S BOAT OVERWHELMED. FOUR OF CREW DROWNED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received December 5, 8.5 p.m. LONDON, December 5. Four of the crew of the Carnarvon Bay were drowned owing to one, of the ship's boats being overwhelmed. •"'An unknown schooner sank in the Huniber, all hands being drowned. MR ASQUiTH HECKLED. AT ALBERT HALL MEETING. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received December 5. 8.5 p.m. LONDON, December 5. Mr Asquith was the chief speaker at the Albert Hall demonstration, denouncing reprisals. He was repeatedly, interrupted by females and extremists, who declared that his Government murdered Sinn Feiners who were court-marlialled and shot for participating in the 1910 rebellion. COSTAL VESSELS WRECKED. LOSS OF LIFE REPORTED. CASUALTIES TO LIFE BOAT. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received December 5, 8.5 p.m. LONDON, December 5. A severe gale is raging in the British Isles. Several coastal vessels have been wrecked with loss of life. Five of the crew of the Rheseolyn lifeboat were drowned while proceeding to the assistance of the Carnavon Bay. Ships on the Tyne broke from their moorings and collided with others, doing considerable damage.
