SINGLE WOMAN KILLED. THROWN FROM A HORSE. While riding along the RaglanKawhia Road on Friday afternoon, Miss S. Easton, 41 years of age, was thrown from her tiarse and received injuries which proved fatal. Miss Baston was riding in company with another lady, when her horse bolted, and she was thrown. Dr. Saunders was sent for, and ordered her removal to the Auckland Hospital," but she died on the way. An inquest was held on Saturday, when a verdict of accidental death was returned. Deceased was spending a short holiday with her relatives in the Pukckohe and Raglan districts. She had been employed in Auckland for some years, and about three months ago returned from a visit to Australia with the late Mrs Street, with whom she ' resided at (Jockburn Street, Grey Lynn. RUN OVER BY A TRAM. ' WELL-KNOWN CRICKETER KILLED By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, Monday. William McMath, the well-known Ponsonby cricketer, died in the hospital of injuries caused through being run over by a tram at Takapuna on Saturday night. . Both his legs were severed. Deceased was 40 years ol age, married, and leaves a young family. DIED IN CHURCH. AUCKLAND, Monday. William Lambert, agad 73, died suddenly in St. David's Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning. He had unveiled a roll of honour during the service, Saying a few words to the congregation. He returned to his seat, and while the hymn "Now the Labourer's Task is O'er" was being sung, he fell forward, and was carried into the vestibule, where he expired soon after. He had been under medical treatment for heart trouble. YOUNG GIRL DROWNED. TAUMARUNUI, Monday. Mary Thorpe, aged 15 years, only daughter of Mr 11. Thorpe, Public Works Department, was drowned yesterday while bathing in the Ongarue River, neaj Taumarunui. She was evidently seized with cramp or heart failure, and suddenly sank in deep water while swimming beside another girl, who was grabbed and pulled under, but got free and scrambled ashore. A number of bathers were present. After a search of ten minutes the body was located and recovered by a man named M. Thompson. Artificial respiration was tried for an hour and a quarter, but without success. Deceased had previously complained of cramp. STRUCK BY A TRAIN. TE KUITI, Monday. An accident having a fatal termination occurred on Saturday night at Ilangatiki, when a man named Edward Outhbert O'llare, a returned soldier, who found dead some ten chains from the railway station. It is assumed that deceased was struck by a passing foods train when he was crossing tli-j rne. He sustained a broken back and other injuries. At the Coroner's inquest to-day, Mr E. W. Burton, S.M., found that deceased died from injuries received through being struck by a train, no blame being attachable to anyone. FELL ON A STOVE. PALMERSTON NORTH, Monday. Minnie Hoskings, single, aged 44, died in the Palmerston North Hospital as the result of burns received by falling on a Iwt stove. Deceased, who resided with her mother at Foxton, was subject to epileptic fits. The mother left deceased alone in the house for a while, allowing the fire to go out. In her absence deceased relit it, and later fell across the open stove in a seizure. At the inquest s verdict of death from shock was returned. FOUND DEAD. HASTINGS, Monday. A woman, aged about 40, was found dead in an overgrown vacant section early this morning. On the body was a bank hook bearing the name Ada Alice Coats, and a reference, dated 1916, from the Graiul.Nalional Hotel, Petone. Deceased has been identified as having been temporarily employed in a local hotel under the name of Harris.
