THE DOMAIN BOARD.
(To the Editor.) <=jr. There are two comments we should like to make on the report of the discussion at the last meeting of the- Borough Council concerning the. appointments to the Domain Hoard. The first has reference to the position of Mr Eben Wilson. Several members of the Council seem to think that Mr Wilson is somehow in an exceptional position, ami the public may be led to assume that there is some valid objection to Mr Wilson's appointment, which does not, apply in our case. This is not the fact. Mr Wilson, as soon as Mr Swarbrick announced the policy to which the sports' bodies also afterwards objected, attempted to fight that policy from his seat on the Board. Arriving at the conclusion that, with the Board as then constituted, he had no useful function on the Board, Mr Wilson decided that he could best serve the Domains by bringing matters hi a head and making a public protest. Mr Wilson took that course after consultation with ourselves and others and the result, was reported in your issue of the Bth February, 191 P. Mr Wilson, as we anticipated, was denied a hearing, and he resigned bis seat, leaving with a reporter the speech he was not allowed to give. There should be no doubt in any unbiassed mind that, in reference to the present situation, an attempt to differentiate against. Mr Wilson i- grossly unfair. We niav add that we bellied W'.l I others to persuade Mr Wilson to allow himself to be re-nominated. It is obvious that, if appointed as one of three members opposed to t.'e chairman's policy, his position would be unite different from thai which had previously existed. Tl Imr comment, we wish to make concerns the statement that the late Council made a decision without hearing the Domain Board state its side of the case. bis statement, is true, but Is absolutely misleading. The Borough Council, after hearing the sports' bodies, yen properlv invited the Domain Board to state its case, and the ma iter was Held over till the next meeting. Tins gave the Domain Board a fortnight. Hie Board did not deem the matter Of sutticient importance to call a speeia meeting. We believe that special meetings have been held for business of less importance. We submit, thai the Domain Board has no grievance in this matter, and we do not know ilia. they hvae made any claim in tins resn,,et —Yours, etc., f F. A. DE LA MARE. \V. G. FABLING.
