AN INTERESTING STATEMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Saturday. An interesting statement covering the operations of the patriotic! societies from the commencemenl of the war up to the present year was presented by the .Minister of Internal Affairs to the Conference of War Relief Societies today. The numlier of societies operating at the end of each financial year March 31) was: 1917, 50T; 1918, 083; 1010, 881; 1020, 415. The amount of relief to soldiers and dependants paid for the year ended March 31, 1017, was £113,726; 1918, £109.740; 1019, £128.307; 1020, £376,895 —a total of £728,73... The receipts by patriotic societies from all sources were: Up to March 31, 1017, £2,509,187; 1918, £1,297,033; 1919, £1,000,299; 1920, £581,471 —a total of £5,447,991.
The total of patriotic funds available in the Dominion at March 31, 1020, was: In the hands of trustees of approved war funds, £1,503,481; relief fund, £001; hospital ship fund, £108; National War Funds Council, £37,494; convalescent homes accounts. £1282; war expenses contribution account, £1437; New Zealand comforts account, £1475; sundry small accounts, £BB—a total of £1,546,164.
