A Bagdad message states that a column returning on the 13th halted two miles from Samawah station, and encountered stubborn opposition. Samawah was entered, and relieved on the morning of the 1 sth. A War Office communique says that the 2nd East Yorks and Ihe l.'ilh Ragputs, stormed three successive lines of rebel defences westward of Hillaii. Low-flying aeroplanes effectively bombed and machine-gunned the enemy.
