WAT-IMP,Tj». Surprise Party. A large number of friends of Mrs Beeson and Mr and Mrs de Renzi paid a surprise visit to "The Tower" homestead on Monday evening last. The chairman of the Town Boar I ■ tated this week that a re-valuation of the town area will be made in November. Boy Scouts' Concert. The first concert held under the auspices of the Matamata Troop of the Boy Scouts eventuated 'ln the Mataniatt Town Hall on Tuesday evening. The hall was packed and the concert was a huge success. The programme w.is varied and terminated with a bright sketch entitled "Mrs Maggs and the Tramp." The parts in this were we.l sustained and created considerable amusement. The school children showed careful tuition. At the conclusion of the concert Rev. W. E. Connolly thanked Mrs Darby and other ladies, principally among whom can be included Miss Battersby and Mrs .T. Buchanan, for the attention they had given the little ones. He said the scouts were delighted with the success attainedl, as was also doubtless the public. The Matamata Rugby Union's annual lOfllal in Hie Matamata Town Hal on Wednesday proved to be most enjoyable in every way. Before concluding, the secretary referred in eulogistic terms to the services rendered by the union's secretary, Mr J. E. Cummings, and Mr \\. Glynn Lewis, the donor of the medols. he said the thanks of the footballers ■were especially due to these two sportsmen. TAUPIRI. Successful Concert. A verv successful concert, organised bv the Huntly Orchestra and other musical talent of Huntly, took place In the Taupirl Hall on Thursday, October 7 The proceeds were in aid or the Ladies' Bazaar Fund, in connection with the proposed Soldiers' and •Settlers' Hall, and as there was a fair attendance, the funds will materially benefit. The two selections by the Huntly Orchestra, under the capable baton of Mr Farrimond. were The Caliph of Bagdad," and "Waves of Ocean." Both were well rendered and a nice balance of tone was maintained throughout. The programme was an excellent one and our Hunlly friends are to be. congratulated on the success achieved. Following were the items : Song "There's a Land." Mr Penman; duet' "The Lily and the Ros<\ Mrs Martin and Mrs E. Harris; violin solo, "HeJ' Hejl" and encore "Bartfal Ermek." Master V. Aspey; song. I Built a Bridge of Fancies, Mrs E. Harris- song, "When the Ebb Tide Flows. Mr F Knapper; brass quartette, Messrs Bovd,' A. Young. F. Wood and V. Aspey; song. "The Tollers, Mr A. Young; quartette. "Hail, Smiling Morn " and encore. Mrs Martin Mr.s F Harris Mr Martin and Mr Penman: trio "A Little Farm Well Tilled." Messrs A. Young. F. Wood, ami F. Knapper; song. "The Song that reached My Heart." Mrs Martin: song. "Sands' of the Desert," and encore "1 Pass by Your Window," Mr F. Knapper'- recitation, "Afton Waters," encore "Bide a Wee," Mr Martin; recitation. -The Game of Life." Mrs E. Harris; humorous sketch in character. Mr Penman. The last Item received vociferous encores. After the concert a dance was held. the music being supplied by Mr White's orchestra. Mr F. Littlewond was M.C. The Huntly performers were hospitably entertained to supper by Mr and Mrs A. H. Waring at their residence. Tennis Club. The opening day of the Taupiri Tennis Club was on Saturday. October 9. The courts were In good order, and there was a large crowd present, ths f dinwintf .dubs being well represented: Ngaruawahia. Huntly, Orlni, and Bnrnthorpe. This season there are many new members from among the young folk, and altogether the prospects are very bright.
