BAND PRACTICES
ORDERED TO QUIT. A CHEAP RELEASE. The action of the Hamilton Borough Council in requesting tlie band of the 16th (Waikato) Regiment to vacate the room in which it at present conducts its practices, drew a letter from the band at last night's meeting, pointing out that the recent court proceedings established the fact that the standing as a regimental band was purely a matter of arrangement between the Regiment and the. Town Rand, and did not in any way deprive the Town Rand Incorporated of its assets, included in the assets was the old band room, which the Rand was called upon to vacate in 1918. This was built largely at the expense of the Hand, and tin' Council had acquired a building worth at least £2OO, ror the mere cost of removal, amounting to £CiT) The writer suggested that the Council should pay the Band its out-of-pocket expenses (£65) in connection with the matter. A letter dealing with the same subject was received also from the old Town Band. Cr Barton: If £6. r > would relieve us of the worry of the bands for all time, I should say. give them the £(ir->. Both communications were referred to the Legal and Finance Committee.
